“Colors of Korea” Exhibition at MTR
The painting exhibition of Anna Kim, wife of the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bulgaria, opened yesterday evening at the Acvariu Hall of the Romanian Peasant Museum (MTR).
As a diplomat’s wife, Anna Kim, born in Seoul, traveled in several world cities including Ciudad de Mexico, Madrid, Brussels, Paris and Sofia – where she residing now. A 1984 graduate in Art History of Seoul’s Ewha University, she also earned a special diploma in oil and acrylic painting from the Institute of Fine Arts Ciudad de Mexico.According to the MTR press release, the artist uses various techniques – oil and acrylic painting, pastel, gouache etc her current trademark style being given by her usage of natural rock powders – traditional Korean materials – which contributes to the special color features of her works. Her painting is a combination of traditional art and modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean art. Anna Kim also received the traditional painter certificate from the Institute of Social Education Yonsei University and the traditional painter certificate from the Ewha University. Anna Kim participated at many group exhibition at, among others, Paek Sang Memorial Hall in Seoul, University of Anahuac Ciudad de Mexico, Frankfurt Book Fair etc. In 2007, she exhibited her works the 32nd Seoul annual exhibition of traditional Korean art where she was awarded the First Prize in traditional painting. A member of the Korean Association of Traditional Painting and of the Bulgarian Fine Arts Guild, Anna Kim also published numerous articles in art and museum magazines. In May 2011, Anna Kim opened a personal exhibition at the 16th Art Salon in Sofia, followed by personal exhibitions at Varna, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Madrid and Plovdiv.You can learn more on her logging on to her blog: sunwoll.blog.me The exhibition is on display through January 21.
