100 kilos horsemeat batch labelled as veal found in Bucharest

A batch of roughly 100 kilos of horsemeat labelled as veal was found with a Bucharest trader on Tuesday, according to Agriculture Ministry Secretary of State Achim Irimescu, quoted by Agerpres, Hotnews reports. The official said the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Sanitary-Veterinary and Food Safety Authority would continue to check all relevant economic operators. ‘(…) The horsemeat was dispatched from the unit correctly. We have checked all units and found no irregularities but, once it is out through the unit gates, the trader can do what he wants with it. We have taken all measures and will continue our inspections together with ANSVSA, including economic operators,’ Irimescu said.Romania has been recently featured in a major European row over the false labelling of horsemeat as veal in a range of goods retailed on the British market. The supplier of the products, French company Comigel, accused two Romanian abattoirs of having supplied the horsemeat used in the lasagna.
