Delegates from all the 47 branches of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (ALDE) will meet on Friday and Saturday at the Parliament Palace to elect their new leadership at the Congress. Most likely, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu will be elected the sole President of the party, although he stated on Thursday that he will apply “in the last minute”. The other ALDE Co-President, Daniel Constantin, who challenged the organization of the Congress in front of the court, will not be present at its proceedings.
“On the first day of the Congress, we will vote on the amendments to the statute, and the main two items on the Saturday’s agenda will be the debate and the adoption of several motions and resolutions, in the first part, and then the vote on the leadership of the statutory bodies” announced the ALDE Co-President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu on Thursday, at the Senate.
Calin Popescu-Tariceanu was asked if he will run for the ALDE President, given that the first day of the party’s Congress is on Friday. “Not yet, I’m waiting for the last minute”, Tariceanu answered.
On the first day of the Congress, the party will debate issues related to the statute, and the new leadership will be elected on Saturday.
On Friday, the opening of the ALDE Congress (at 16.00) will be preceded by the meeting of the ALDE Central Political Bureau (at 13.00) and by the ALDE Permanent National Delegation (at 13.30).
On Saturday, at 10.00, the ALDE Congress will continue and the party’s new leadership will be elected.
