Alexandrion Group, the leader in the Romanian production and distribution of spirits, announced the conclusion of an agreement with the state of New York for opening the first distillery in USA, in the Mid-Hudson region, Putnam County. Alexandrion Group’s total investment will reach approx. USD 100 million.
In the first phase, Alexandrion will invest over USD 40 million to turn an existing building into a distillery wit an area of 11,000 sqm, with a tourist center and tasting rooms. The project, which will be developed over the next five years, will create 102 new jobs in New York and other states. After completing the construction, in 2020, the new distillery will produce premium spirits adjusted to the US market, such as whisky, bourbon, gin, brandy and vodka. These products will be distributed in USA, but they will also be exported to the 50 countries in which the Group is currently distributing its existing portfolio.
The company announced for the first time its intention to develop the distillery in the United States of America in July, 2017. Since then, Empire State Development (ESD), the economic development agency from New York, has worked closely with Alexandrion Group in order to implement the project, providing tax facilities of USD 2.7 to the company, through Excelsior Jobs Program, a local project encouraging the companies to expand themselves or to relocate their businesses in New York.
“We are excited to collaborate with the local authorities for such a large project which will introduce Alexandrion Group on the American market. We have the opportunity to use our experience to develop new products adjusted to the US consumers”, stated Nawaf Salameh, Chairman Alexandrion Group (photo). “This investment is a strategic approach allowing us to be present in the United States and to use this position as a starting point for exports to the rest of the world. We are sure that this partnership will be successful, bringing important benefits for both the Alexandrion Group and the local community of the state of New York” added the Chairman of the Alexandrion Group.
“Hudson Valley is quickly developing, turning into the national capital of the spirits production, having all the necessary ingredients to support producers of all sizes – abundant natural resources, skilled labor force and tourists from all over the world. We warmly welcome the Alexandrion Group in Hudson Valley to build the first American distillery and look forward to its development in the region”, stated Howard Zemsky, Chairman, CEO and Commissioner of ESD.
Over the years, the project will have a positive impact on the local community, by creating hundreds of new jobs and attracting the tourists from all over the world who will wish to know the production process in the distillery and taste the unique flavors in the dedicated rooms.
