The famous violinist Alexandru Tomescu is the first classical music artist to become the official ambassador of Automobile Bavaria Group, the largest network of BMW dealers in Central and South Eastern Europe.
Since its debut in 1983, the artist has performed over 1500 concerts and recitals in 33 countries, over five continents, and is the winner of numerous national and international awards for classical music competitions. In 2007, following the competition organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Identity of Romania, Alexandru Tomescu won the right to sing at the Stradivarius Elder-Voicu violin for 5 years, a national heritage object, the thesaurus category. The violin had previously been owned by the famous musician Ion Voicu and is considered one of Stradivarius’s best preserved instruments. In 2013, Alexander wins for the second time the right to sing to the Stradivarius Elder-Voicu violin, so this year it has been ten years since Alexander bears Stradivarius Elder-Voicu’s violin all over the world.
“I remember now, as if it were yesterday, how I received the Stradivarius violin at the Ministry of Culture and the first concerts that followed, the first tournaments. I do not know if I managed to bring her to every Romanian citizen, as I have proposed, but I’m still working on this project. The Stradivarius tournaments, which have taken an international dimension for several years, are exactly the materialization of this promise. I did not intend to give the audience a hit or songs easy to listen to because I think an artist must also take on a role of educating the public’s taste, promoting incredibly beautiful, but little-known music in our country.”
Dynamics and intense emotion are the common elements that brought the BMW brand close to Alexandru Tomescu and the music he shares generously, regardless the scene. “The passion for detail, the desire to perfect everything up to its upper limit are just two of the coordinates that immediately approached me for Automobile Bavaria. It is a joy and an honor to join this performance-focused team. I have the privilege of being the first artist in the area of classical music that joins them and cannot wait for our next joint projects.” said Alexandru Tomescu.
The artist has created a revolution in classical Romanian music, proving that he can tamper with any form of music when singing to people reaching the same wavelength. However, Alexandru Tomescu was involved in numerous humanitarian and social causes in Romania, the most recent being saving from extinction the house where George Enescu grew up, in Mihăileni and transform it into a school for supporting future talent of Romania.
Alexandru Tomescu is also an Ambassador of Romanian Tourism, starting with 2014, alongside Ilie Năstase, Ivan Patzaichin, Maia Morgenstern, Nadia Comăneci, Horia Tecău and other outstanding personalities.
As the Ambassador of Automobile Bavaria Group, under the Friends of the BMW project, Alexandru Tomescu drives the new BMW 4 Series Coupé 420d xDrive, the M Sport model, Black Sapphire, equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine with 140 kW (190 hp) and xDrive all-wheel drive.
Referring to the BMW experience, the artist said: “The BMW 4 Series Coupe is a car that looks spectacular from any angle you look at. I am simply impressed by the elegance and refinement of every detail and especially fascinated by the typical BMW sportiness. Every time I play at the Stradivarius violin I have the same feeling from the wheel of a car with a lot of horsepower: a huge force that can propel you into worlds you never thought you could reach. The big wisdom, both in the case of a violin and a car, is to know how to handle that whole force.”
Alexandru Tomescu will use the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, especially on country trips in distant cities, being already “enchanted” by the sheer driving pleasure of BMW. For special occasions, events or concerts, Alexandru Tomescu will also have the new BMW 5 Series.
