More than 400 international artists will arrive in Bucharest between July 13 and August 5 for the tenth edition of the Bucharest International Street Theater Festival – B-Fit in the Street!, organized by Bucharest Municipality through ARCUB.

With a more eclectic and dynamic program than ever, the anniversary edition of the festival celebrates in 2018 ten years of existence, as well as the Centenary of the Great Union, with the biggest selection of Romanian productions so far. Entitled “O poveste romaneasca in Anul Centenarului” (“A Romanian Story in the Year of the Centenary” – e.n.), this year’s edition of the Bucharest International Street Theater Festival is one of the largest events in the Centenary year, with four weekends comprising over 40 spectacles from 12 participating countries and dozens of performances in key areas of Bucharest.

Artists from Asia, South America and Europe will surprise the audience with a variety of artistic languages, from pantomime to circus, dance, acrobatics, street music, theater on stilts and juggling with fire.

For the first time, the festival’s program will include interactive installations that turn emblematic places of Bucharest into playgrounds full of color, educational spectacles and workshops for kids held by Romanian artists.

The program of the anniversary edition includes:

Romanian productions: The first large-scale Romanian production reinterprets for the first time Harap Alb’s fairy tale, while acrobats, artists on stilts and circus artists from Romania will held theater performances in the street, along with international artists.

Interactive installations: For the first time at this year’s edition, installations of impressive sizes placed in central areas can be explored by people from Bucharest and tourists throughout the festival. For the first time in Bucharest, the Danish artist Karoline H. Larsen brings “Collective Strings” in the University Square; it is a 300-kilometer installation of colored rope that allows people to change the public space by a creative and free manner.

Workshops for kids: Every weekend of the festival, in Cismigiu Park, on Saturdays and Sundays, there will be organized educational workshops for kids, from percussion, acting and pantomime workshops to puppet making workshops, workshops of science through theater and magic workshops.

Night performances: Highlights of the festival will include the large-scale productions scheduled only on weekend evenings. In addition to the air acrobatics performances that attract every year the largest audience, in 2018, B-FIT in the Street! brings to Bucharest night performances on water, promising to impress the audience with games of light and fire, floating decors and surrealistic scenes. The “Water Fools” show from France transforms the lake from Cismigiu Park into the scene of a water carnival, with a strong visual impact.

Parades: The Revolution Square, the Odeon Theater Square and other key areas in Bucharest host a wide range of street theater performances – juggling with fire, performances for children, shows with a strong visual impact, and astronomy sessions for kids and adults. Being on a trip around the world, the Japanese artist Performer Monk will perform in Bucharest an acrobatic and fire juggling show presented at festivals in Malaysia, Thailand, Germany and Turkey.

Itinerant shows: The Historic Center and the University Square will be animated in the nine days of festival with samba rhythms, Latin dances, juggling on stilts, interactive dance performances and live music performances. A show of over 30 years old, “Colored People” has sparked sensational reactions in Canada, Brazil, Europe and Asia, and in 2018 puts the passers-by in Bucharest to the test with unexpected appearances of the French artists.

Being initiated in 2007, the Bucharest International Street Theater Festival B-Fit in the Street! is the only street theater festival in Bucharest. After the success of the first eight editions, which managed to gather over 20,000 participants each year in just four days of the festival, in 2017 FITSB extends the program to one month of events, thus becoming the largest street theater festival in Romania. In 2018, FITSB celebrates its tenth edition with four weekend of performances, from July 13 to August 5.
