As much as EUR 150,000 were raised on Wednesday evening at an auction as part of the Art for Children charity event hosted by the National Bank of Romania, the Artmark auction house reports. Art for Children is the first charity initiative of such magnitude in Romania, patterned on a Western European model. Among the highest bidding works were ‘Confidente’ (Confidences) by Mihail Simonidy (final price EUR 13,000 from a starting price of EUR 3,800) and ‘Pe plaja’ (Beachscape) by Rodica Maniu Mutzner (EUR 20,000), the highest prices fetched by the two painters so far. Other crowd pleasers were ‘Dupa spectacol’(After the Show) by Dorel Topan (EUR 2,000 from EUR 900); ‘Rolling’ by Francisc Chiuariu (EUR 4,000 from EUR 1,800); ‘De-a v-ati ascunselea’ (Playing Hide and Seek) by Dan Hatmanu (EUR 1,600 from EUR 1,000); ‘Margareta desenand’ (Margareta Drawing) by Stefan Dimitrescu (EUR 14,000 from EUR 10,000) and ‘Liolea’ by Ion Theodorescu-Sion (EUR 16,000). The most awaited artistic event of the season by Artmark will be a duplex Bucharest-Cluj Napoca summer 2014 auction, the first ever auction to reach the heart of Transylvania.
