President Traian Basescu signed on Friday a decree to decorate the deputies of the Republic of Moldova who contributed to decreeing Romanian language as an official language of this country by the Constitutional Court in Chisinau, reports Mediafax. According to the quoted source, Basescu awarded the National Order “Romanian Star” in rank of Grand Cross to deputies Ana Gutu and Valeriu Munteanu, as well as the National Order “Romanian Star” in rank of Grand Officer to deputies Corina Fusu, Boris Vieru and Gheorghe Brega. The decoration was held at the proposal of presidential councilor Bogdan Manoiu, Head of European Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration. We mention that the Constitutional Court in Chisinau ruled on December 6 on the interpretation of Art 13 (line 1) of the Constitution in relation with the Preamble to the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the official language of the Republic of Moldova is “the Romanian language, not the Moldovan language, based on Latin script,” ruled the Constitutional Court of Chisinau, bestowing the status of constitutional norm to the Declaration of Independence of the country, adopted in 1991.
