The sales of new automobiles and commercial vehicles decreased by 0.1 pc in January this year compared to the same month of 2012, to 4,218 units, according to data provided by the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA), which also show that the import of used cars during this interval advanced by 60 pc, Mediafax reports.
“In January, sales are driven by the acquisitions made by legal entities (81 pc of the total), 11 per cent points higher than the average figure of 2012,” APIA informs in a press release. The market continues to feel the negative impact of the massive import of used vehicles, which reached a volume of approximately 18,000 automobiles, thus increasing by 60 pc against January 2012. Going by these figures, it results that for each new automobile sold in Romania during the first month of this year, five used units were imported, adds the document.
Compared to December 2012, the sales of automobiles declined by 40 pc, Car deliveries diminished by 4.1 pc against January 2011, to 3,334 units, with the top brands being Dacia (758 units sold), Skoda (368), Volkswagen (308), Renault (229), Ford (209) and Hyundai (202). Based on the country of origin, the sales of Romanian made automobiles dropped b7 17.8 pc while imports advanced by 0.7 pc.
On model basis, the first place in January is held by Dacia Sandero, with reported sales of 237 units, followed by Dacia Logan (231) and Skoda Octavia (216). They are followed by Dacia Duster (213 units), Renault Clio (127) and Hyundai i20 (107).
In January, 34,915 automobiles were manufactured, 17.7 pc more than the previous month and 34.7 pc more than in January 2012.
According to the same document, exports advanced by 7.8 pc compared to January 2012, to 27,856 units, exclusively driven by a 12.9 pc increase in the category of automobiles. The best sold model abroad in January 2013 was Dacia Duster (8,545 units), which corresponds to 31 pc of total deliveries abroad, followed by Logan (6,882 units), Sandero (6,407 units) and Ford B-Max (6,022).
