Romania’s exports of beverages and tobacco were worth EUR 157.2 million in the first quarter of the year, by EUR 25.8 million more than in the same interval last year, according to National Institute of Statistics (INS) data. Imports of beverages and tobacco accounted for EUR 100.9 million, by EUR 3.6 million more compared with the figure recorded in January-March 2013, with a surplus of EUR 56.3 million resulting on this segment. As many as 18,600 persons worked in the beverage production sector in end-April, and 1,600 in the tobacco production sector, for an average net salary of RON 2,008 and 3,538 respectively.
