Passenger traffic on the two Bucharest international airports – ‘Henri Coanda’ and ‘Aurel Vlaicu’, respectively, reached 5.92 million in H1 2017 and 61,800 aircraft movements (landings and takeoffs).

Of this total, 5.91 million passengers and 55,700 aircraft movements were registered on the ‘Henri Coanda’ Airport, the National Company Bucharest Airports (CNAB) informs in a Monday release.

“The number of passengers who transited the Bucharest airports in H1 2017 was up by a relevant 20.5 pct from the same period the year before, so that the prerequisites are in place for it to exceed the all-year mark of 12 ml passengers. The dynamics of the passenger numbers on the two airports managed by CNAB significantly outpaced the general trend in Europe. The number of aircraft movements on Bucharest airports also followed an upward trend, with this indicator advancing at a steeper rate than on peer European air transport facilities. Thus in the first six months of 2017, the number of aircraft movements on Bucharest airports increased 9.3 pct compared to the same period of 2016,” the release said.

CNAB representatives note that, given this increase in the number of passengers as well as the dynamics of summer air traffic, there could be longer waiting times at checkpoints during peak hours.

There are currently 41 airlines operating on the ‘Henri Coanda’ International Airport of Bucharest, which transport passengers to 152 destinations.

CNAB started operating on February 5, 2010 and provides the operational coordination and the management of the two airports of Bucharest.

CNAB was set up by the merger of the companies that were managing Bucharest’s ‘Henri Coanda’ International Airport and the ‘Aurel Vlaicu’ Baneasa International Airport.
