The National Day of the Republic of Turkey, representing the proclamation of the Republic, on 29 October 1923, offers the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the pleasure to convey the most sincere congratulations to the Turkish people.

Romania and Turkey have a longstanding tradition of cooperation, as we are preparing to celebrate, in 2018, 140 years of diplomatic relations. We are happy to mention the very good bilateral relations between the two countries, which have enjoyed a special dynamics after 2011, when the Strategic Partnership was signed. The calendar of high level visits in recent years, which has been followed by a multitude of contacts in various spheres, including economic, cultural or military fields, confirmed the relation with Turkey as a priority of the Romanian foreign policy agenda.

The relations between our two countries are based on solidarity and confidence. After the July coup attempt, Romania has expressed its solidarity and strong support for the constitutional, democratically elected Turkish authorities. We trust that Turkey will continue to develop as a stable country, with strong institutions, based on the democratic values and rule of law.

From the economic and commercial perspectives, Turkey is the first partner outside the EU, also ranked the third investment country in Romania, with almost 15.000 Turkish companies active in Romania.

The community of Turkish origin, concentrated on the Black Sea coast, is a model of integration and coexistence in our country. Its members are respected and valued by the Romanian society. The Turkish identity, culture, as well as the Islamic faith, are an important part of the cultural mosaic our country is proud of.

The positive trend and the important potential of our bilateral relations is rooted in the geographic proximity and common history, as well as in the common interests in a region faced with many challenges.

From Romania’s perspective, Turkey’s  place is in the European family. Therefore, we continue to support the goal of Turkey’s EU integration, on the basis of the established criteria, as we believe it would be mutually beneficial for both parties.

We value Turkey not only as a key partner for the EU, but also as a strong ally within NATO, at a time of common security threats. We are deeply convinced that only through joint efforts and enhanced cooperation we will effectively tackle these challenges.

Reaffirming Romania’s commitment towards further deepening and broadening the cooperation with the Republic of Turkey, we are glad to join the celebration and extend our warmest wishes of peace and prosperity to the Turkish people.
