Constantin Brancusi international anniversary event at Cinema Scala
The event will be take place on February 19.
The Romania Film Bucharest Autonomous State Owned Company of Film Distribution and Exploitation (RADEF) Romaniafilm and “Constantin Brancusi” International Society Canada is organizing an international event at Cinema Scala in Bucharest, Feb 19 dedicated to the 137th birth anniversary of great Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi. Financiarul.ro quoted a press release by Laurian Stanchescu, the Society’s president, saying that the “event aims to be a meeting with the Brancusi universe which made Romania into a cardinal point among the great world cultures among the great world cultures”. The program original contains evocations and testimonies about the life and work of the great Romanian artist, including documentary projections and excerpts, as well as a photography exhibition following Laurian Stanchescu’s walking journey from Hobita, the birthplace of the sculptor, to Paris, following Constantin Brancusi’s trail. Stanchescu, who has also originated the campaign for Brancusi’s earthly remains being brought back to his homeland, will present a brief history of the tragic fate of the Romanian sculptor and his concern with the last wish of the artist who, on his deathbed, confided: I die unpeacefully because I cannot die in my country and I will rot in foreign soil, far from the human being I love the most, my mother”.In her turn, Romanian-born Canadian actress Claudia Motea will perform an extraordinary recital entitled – “Remember Brancusi” -, alongside other Romanian stage artists. Among those to attend the event, Marius Iura?cu, General Manager RomaniaFilm, and Assistant Manager Elena Incrosnatu, Prime minister Victor Ponta, Culture Minister Daniel Barbu, Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian, Labor Minister Mariana Campeanu, Minister Delegate for Romanians Everywhere Cristian David, the chairmen of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies Culture Commissions, Georgica Severin and Sorinel-Gigel Stirbu, the TVR president-general manager, Claudiu Saftoiu, Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu, theater, film and TV directors maestros Geo Saizescu and Alexandru Croitoru, the general manager of the National Cinematography Center, Eugen Serbanescu, Romanian Patriarchy officials.Constantin Brancusi (Feb 19, 1876, Hobita, Gorj – March 16, 1957, Paris) was a Romanian sculptor with an overwhelming contribution to the development of modern sculpture. Brancusi’s life vision was influenced both by Plato and Oriental philosophic concepts. Constantin Brancusi became a posthumous member of the Romanian Academy. Among his most important works are the monumental ensemble in ‘Targu-Jiu – ‘The Endless Column’ or ‘The Column of Gratitude’, ‘The Table of Silence’ and ‘The Gate of the Kiss’ – as well as ‘Mademoiselle Pogany’, ‘Prayer’ and ‘Child’s Head’.
