Cosmin Contra, first Romanian coach in La Liga

After he cancelled his contract with Petrolul Ploiesti (3rd place in Romania’s League I) on Monday, coach Cosmin Contra was officially presented by the leadership of Spain’s Getafe as the new coach of the team, thus becoming the first Romanian coaching in the Spanish league, Digisport informs. The Romanian coach will earn EUR 600,000 per season, four times the amount he earned at Petrolul. Contra, who played for Getafe in 2005-2010, has signed a two-year contract with the Spanish club.
“I thank the President of Getafe for the offer of coming to this club where I know everyone, from the gardener to the president. I am sure that we will avoid relegation if we work a lot. I hope on Friday the stadium will be full as it was back in the day I was a player and in this way we will win,” Cosmin Contra stated at the press conference. Contra’s first game as Getafe’s coach will take place on Friday, against Granada. Angel Torres Sanchez, the President of Getafe, stated: “I have confidence in Cosmin. Starting on Friday I hope we will start winning games.”
Also yesterday, Petrolul announced who will replace Contra. His replacement will be Razvan Lucescu, former coach of the national team but also of FC Brasov, Rapid Bucharest and El Jaish (Saudi Arabia). Lucescu signed a three-month contract and will earn EUR 10,000 per month, less than Contra did (EUR 12,500 per month), Digisport informs.
