CSCI poll: Victor Ponta tops preferences for presidential elections


Premier Victor Ponta (PSD-UNPR-PC) would muster the support of 43 percent of those who answered a national opinion poll conducted by CSCI on May 12-14, referring to the first round of presidential elections. Asked whom they would vote for if elections were held next Sunday, 21 pc of subjects answered they would choose Mihai Razvan Ungureanu (FC), 9 pc would opt for Crin Antonescu (PNL), and 7 pc for Elena Udrea (PMP). Participants in the poll declared themselves dissatisfied with the activity of Traian Basescu as president of Romania (69 pc), while 26 pc are satisfied with it. The majority of respondents (67 pc) opposed the idea of Basescu being nominated as premier once he ends his presidential mandate.
According to the CSCI poll, the electoral alliance of the PSD-UNPR-PC (the ruling Social-Democratic Party, National Union for the Progress of Romania and the Conservative Party) ranks first in the Romanians’ options for the Euro-parliamentary elections, with 41 percent of the respondents saying they would choose the alliance candidates in next Sunday’s elections for the European Parliament.
Furthermore, 15 percent of the surveyed answered they would vote for the National Liberal Party (PNL, in opposition), 12 percent would vote for the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL, in opposition) and 9 percent with the People’s Movement Party (PMP).
As for the Romanians’ approval of the public figures, the poll shows National Bank of Romania Governor Mugur Isarescu ranks top with 57 percent. Ranking next are Sport Minister Gabriela Szabo (46 percent), Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu (39 percent) and Prime Minister Victor Ponta (38 percent).
INSCOP: BNR Governor Isarescu, PM Ponta, Liberal Johannis most trusted
National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu, Prime Minister Victor Ponta and National Liberal Party Prime Vice President Klaus Johannis are ahead in the top of the confidence placed by Romanians in public personalities according to the ‘The truth on Romania’ opinion barometer conducted by the INSCOP and commissioned by ‘Adevarul’ newspaper.
The results of a poll carried out between May 1 and 7, place Isarescu first in term of Romanian’s trust with 40.4 percent m. Next in this ranking is PM Ponta with 36.1 percent. Sibiu Mayor and Liberal leader Johannis is third with 35.5 percent. President Traian Basescu is credited with 21 percent of respondents’ trust.
