Romania’s Defence Minister Mircea Dusa said Wednesday, after a meeting in Bucharest with Azeri Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov, that in their conversation they discussed important issues related to the latest security developments in the region and cooperation between the two defence ministries.
‘In our conversation with the official delegations of the ministries we discussed important issues related to the latest developments in regional security and cooperation between the two defence ministries. We agreed that the security state in the region is complicated and we reaffirmed that sovereignty and independence of each state have to be vouchsafed. We analysed aspects of the bilateral relations under the strategic partnership between Romania and Azerbaijan and the cooperation agreement between the two national defence ministries,’ said Dusa.
He added that the Romanian Army has assisted the Azeri Army with training staff and troops, underscoring that he appreciates the joint activity of the two armies in relation to military intelligence.
‘We believe this is good cooperation and we have to identify new avenues for cooperation. We also decided to establish two technical working groups to identify cooperation objectives for 2015. We also agreed that strengthening bilateral cooperation is very important in the new regional security context in relation to Black Sea security,’ said Dusa.
Azeri Defence Minister Hasanov voiced appreciation for the existing cooperation between the two defence ministries, saying that Romania’s support for Azerbaijan is important.
