The bilateral military cooperation, the current phase of the relationships between the two countries, as well as the new perspectives for intensifying the defense dialogue were on the agenda of the discussions between National Defense Minister Mihai Fifor and his counterpart from Georgia, Levan Izoria, who is on official visit to Romania.

According to a Defense Ministry (MapN) press release for AGEPRES, the meeting was “a good opportunity to reconfirm Romania’s firm commitment to supporting the Georgian partner’s Euro-Atlantic path.”

In this context, the national defense minister pointed out that Romania will continue to actively support the process of reforming and modernizing the Georgian armed forces in order to strengthen the defense system and increase interoperability with allied states, the MApN informs.

Minister Mihai Fifor also expressed his appreciation for Georgia’s participation in the NATO Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, the Alliance’s most important operational effort.

“The Georgian defense minister expressed his interest in developing the defense cooperation with the Romanian side and mentioned the intention to increase the participation in the practical training activities organized in our country”, reads the release.

The two ministers also agreed to launch a regular consultation process to identify new defense cooperation projects, taking into account developments in the current security environment in the Black Sea region.
