Deputy Prime Minister wants plan against tax evasion as soon as possible
Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea has given the National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF) an ultimatum to present in the shortest of times a plan of measures to combat tax evasion, otherwise the decision to set up a specialized structure at the Prime Minister’s level could be taken. The statement was made during a conference organized by the Romanian Business Leaders Foundation. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the government is still waiting for ANAF to come up with an action plan against “mafia structures.”
“The corruption from within system is protecting contraband and tax evasion. I have talked with a lot of businessmen that are very nervous, very frustrated because they are the ones paying the taxes. The Prime Minister asked ANAF for a plan of measures, an action plan to tear down all these mafia structures that are protecting the smuggling of cigarettes, alcohol, oil products, agricultural products and tax evasion, and we are still waiting for it,” Dragnea stated.
The statements were made against the backdrop in which Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu took the commitment to reorganize ANAF after finalizing the budget. Chitoiu stated at the end of January that the authorities will restructure “from the ground up” the control structures, the Financial Guard, the Customs Supervision and Control Commission, the Investigations Unit, the new structure set to have “competent and upright men.” The reorganization will start within ANAF after the budget is finalized, Finance Minister Daniel Chitoiu stated according to money.ro.
