DNA continues verifications of “local barons”

The president of CJ Mehedinti, Adrian Duicu (photo), suspected of misuse of authority and influence peddling, was detained by the National Direction for Anticorruption DNA prosecutors Wednesday at his parents’ home in Toplet (Caras-Severin), following searches that lasted several hours, DNA announced.DNA conducted Wednesday many searches at the Mehedinti County Council, at the home of CJ president Adrian Duicu in Orsova and at other institutions of Mehedinti and Dolj counties.
The local press informed, these years, about the businesses run by the president of CJ Mehedinti through companies registered on the name of his wife Mariana and his mother Ana Duicu, who own several fuel stations in Drobeta Turnu Severin and in his home locality – Toplet (Caras-Severin), as well as a hotel at the exit from Drobeta Turnu Severin, and also the medical clinic Romrad-RMN, which operates in the policlinic of the County Hospital.
In May 2012, one month before the local elections in which Adrian Duicu ran for the office of president of CJ Mehedinti on behalf of USL, the National Integrity Agency announced that Duicu, who was then county counselor, was found incompatible.
According to ANI, Ioan Adrian Duicu participated in the deliberation and adoption of a decision of the Mehedinti County Council on 28 October 2008, which approved the rental of a land with the surface of 250 sq m., situated at the premises of the Drobeta-Turnu Severin Emergency Hospital, top SC Romrad-RMN SRL, and of a decision on 31 August 2009 about the sale of two bodies of property in the town to the same company, whose associate he was.
Since 2009, Adrian Duicu is president of PSD Mehedinti and executive secretary of PSD at national level, and also member of the National Union of County Councils of Romania.
DNA also announced that Wednesday the institution searched the offices of some institutions and firms in Orsova, Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Craiova, in a case regarding acts of corruption allegedly made by leading officials during 2012-2013 and in January 2014.
“At this moment, we conduct the probe relative strictly to facts and no investigation was launched against a person,” DNA informed.
Former Bistrita deputy-Prefect sent in court
The former PNTCD sub-prefect of the Bistrita-Nasaud County, Damaschin Berende was sent in court by prosecutors for tax evasion, under the accusation of having issued more than 250 fictive invoices that cause a loss of RON 5 M, Mediafax reports. According to the Bistrita-Nasaud Tribunal, prosecutors accuse Damaschin Berende that during 2005-March 2008, as administrator of SC G&B Lumidan SRL Rodna, registered in the accounting books 254 fictive fiscal invoices, with the consequence of influencing the fiscal obligations, consisting in VAT and profit tax, causing a loss of RON 4,978,819. The firm of the former sub-prefect, SC G&B Lumidan SRL Rodna, administered a dairy in Rudna. In 2008 the company was among the top 55 biggest milk processors in Romania and belonged to the Romanian Employers’ Association of the Milk Industry.
