ECOBANCA, designed to become a good example of waste collection

Your Recycling Bank is a project designed to become an example of good practice in Romania’s cities as far as waste electrical and electronic equipment collection is concerned, Romania’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Attila Korodi said yesterday, Agerpres reports. ‘Under the European and national legislation, local administrations are under an obligation to contribute to the collection, reclamation and recycling of WEEE – waste batteries and accumulators and make sure the waste is transferred to an authorised recycling facility. Another obligation is to make sure there is at least one waste collection point for every 50,000 people. That means some 40 such points should exist in Bucharest City, when factoring in the city’s population size,’ said Korodi.
The Environ Association on Tuesday launched the 2nd edition of the information, awareness and stimulation campaign for selective collection of WEEE-WBA called ECOBANCA – Your Recycling Bank. The ECOBANCA campaign is an integrant part of the Environ Association’s strategy for proactive support to turning Romania into a society of recycling in order to increase public awareness of the danger of wasting natural resources and thus to helping the country fulfil its European obligations related to the waste hierarchy principles.
