Employers’ associations ask IMF to accept VAT reduction for meat

The employers’ associations in the meat industry sent an open letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in which they request the agreement for VAT reduction for meat and meat products, from 24 percent to 5 percent, reasoning that the measure would reduce the tax evasion in this field, estimated at EUR 450 million, according to Alex Jurconi, president of Pro Agro federation, reports Mediafax. He said that the employers’ associations in the industry hope that the proposal for the VAT reduction for meat and meat products should be on the IMF agenda on their next visit to Romania. The Romanian meat producers and processors have complained lately that they reached the limit of profitability and the situation got even worse since the reduction of VAT in Hungary to 5 percent for pork.
