Minister Delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu said on Friday that Romania’s holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union is on behalf of the country and the Romanians, and “not about parties or politicians.”
“I sincerely believe that Romania’s holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union is in the first place about Romania and its citizens, and not in the least about political parties or politicians, and this is in no case about a particular minister or a government or anyone else. It is my duty as a guarantor of the proper organization of this term at the EU helm to make sure that the Presidency stays with the citizens and Romania, and does not end up in domestic or any other political debate,” Negrescu said.
He added that in the coming months he wants the MPs to vote as a matter of urgency the program with the priorities for Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council.
“Yes, I would like us to finalize this process as fast as possible, to be able to have in the first half of this year a comprehensive discussion in Parliament and vote on the preliminary program with an initial list of priorities,” said the Minister Delegate for European Affairs referring to preparations for Romania’s taking over the Presidency of the EU Council next year.
