Celebratory events took place on  Sunday in the city of Alba Iulia under the title ‘Coronation Day,’ in the presence of Princess Maria, in memory of the events that happened exactly 95 years ago, when King Ferdinand and Queen Mary were crowned as sovereigns of Greater Romania.

The youngest of King Mihai’s daughters, Princess Mary, was also present two years ago at Alba Iulia in the events organized on October 15.

The programme of events began with a Te Deum in the Orthodox Cathedral, erected precisely in order to provide a suitable framework for coronation, followed at the Unirii Hall, by the exhibition ‘The Cathedral of Coronation – History and Gift’ and the Guard Exchange Ceremony.

The Union Hall has also hosted  the Conference on  “95 Years since Coronation. Today’s Challenges to the National State”. The Augustin Bena Marching Band of the Alba County has performed an extraordinary concert, which was followed by the screening of the film “Queen Mary, the last romantic, the first modern woman,” directed by Sorin Iliesiu.

The events ended in the evening with the extraordinary Concert “Do you Like Beethoven?” performed by cellist Razvan Suma and pianist Daniel Goiti.

Three years ago, a ten-year protocol was signed between the Royal House of Romania, the County Council of Alba and the City Hall of Alba Iulia, a document on the collaboration between the three partners and a calendar of activities which will take place in October of each year in Alba Iulia.
