Princess Elena, the mother of ex-Prince Nicolae, declares herself disappointed with and concerned by the actions of her son, following the incident that took place the day before, when he tried to enter King Michael’s Swiss residence by force, and deems that, through his behaviour, Nicolae “has disregarded the privacy, suffering and dignity” of the former sovereign. She claims that King Michael reproached Nicolae in a letter with not doing anything to clarify the paternity “of his alleged child, a two-year-old girl,” which is “an unacceptable lack of responsibility.”

“I’m very disappointed with and concerned by the actions of my son Nicolae. Through his recent behaviour, Nicolae has disregarded the privacy, suffering and dignity of my father King Michael. In the past, I informed Nicolae that the King does not want to see him because of his behaviour which lacks moral principles. The King himself, when hearing of my son’s marriage, informed Nicolae, in a private letter dated 4 August 2017, that he is profoundly saddened that Nicolae did nothing to clarify the paternity of his alleged child, a little girl almost two years of age. This shows an unacceptable lack of responsibility,” the princess writes in a communique issued by the Royal Family.

Princess Elena states that during her most recent visit to Aubonne, back in August, her father personally confirmed to her his decision not to see Nicolae, something that the former prince knew.

“King Michael made it known several times, even in writing, that the reason for his decision to withdraw Nicolae’s royal title is that my son lacks the necessary qualities for a position within the Royal Family of Romania,” the princes writes, deeming that Nicolae’s recent actions “are profoundly wrong, on a moral and human level.”

“My son has shown disregard for Romania, for its people and for the principles of the Royal Family. For me, as a mother, this aspect is devastating,” she concludes.

Former Prince Nicolae: I am disappointed and profoundly saddened by the stubbornness of the members of the Royal House and of my mother; it would be noble to show respect in these moments

Former Prince Nicolae says he is disappointed and profoundly saddened by the stubbornness of the members of the Royal House and of his mother, appreciating that it would be noble for everybody to show respect in such a moment and to let go “any personal ambition”.

“I am disappointed and profoundly saddened by the stubbornness of the members of the Royal House and of my mother, by the easiness and the lack of respect by which they simply throw aggressive, defamatory and groundless press releases, now, in these moments when it would be noble to show respect and to let go any personal ambition” wrote the former prince in a press release posted on his Facebook account.

He expresses his regret that these press releases issued by the Royal House, especially in these moments, “are profoundly damaging” the image of what the Royal House of Romania should mean.

Nicholas resumed the statements he made after the incident in Switzerland, when he wanted to enter the king’s residence to see him, according to which he just wanted to see his grandfather and to say farewell, saying that they weren’t separated even in the exile period, and he expressed his doubts related to the fact that King Mihai didn’t want to see him.

“I remind everybody that the love and respect of a nation has to be gained, not taken by force” the former prince ends his press release.
