Exhibition on Mexico in Targu-Jiu

Ambassador of Mexico in Romania, Agustin Gutierrez Canet attended on Tuesday, March 18, the opening of the exhibition ‘People and Places: Mexico. Traditions and Habits,’ at the ‘Alexandru Stefulescu’ County Museum in Targu-Jiu, Gorj County (south-west). The exhibition includes fabrics, pottery, paintings, clothing, wood carvings and other objects specific to Mexican culture, and it can be visited for a month, between March 18 and April 18.
Ambassador Agustin Gutierrez Canet said that there are many similarities between the Mexican culture and the Romanian one. ‘The items are very diverse: pottery, leather, engravings, wood, textiles, as well as this particular item, a long coat for women, with embroidery, and its design reflects the place where it was made. The Mexican culture is very diverse, very rich, we are proud of it and also of the fact that it resembles the Romanian one. For example, there are some Romanian embroidered blouses resemble the Mexican ones a great deal and sometimes one can find no difference. I have also noticed that the black ceramic objects, which are different than what is done in other countries, resemble the similar objects made by Romanians,’ said Mexico’s ambassador to Romania. After the Mexican diplomat’s visit, the County Council is expecting, on March 25, Polish Ambassador to Romania, Marek Szczygiel, who will attend the opening of an exhibition of Polish posters at the ‘Alexandru Stefulescu’ County Museum.
