Exports and imports, up 6.3 pc and 4.6 pc respectively, in January


Trade deficit was EUR 249 M, down EUR 49.8 M against January 2013, INS informs.

Romania’s imports and imports advanced in January 2014 by 6.3 pc and 4.6 pc respectively, against January 2013, with FOB exports amounting to EUR 3.94 bln and CIF imports to EUR 4.18 bln, according to estimations made by the National Statistics Institute (INS) and released Wednesday. The RON-denominated values of exports advanced in January 2014, against January 2013, by 8.8 pc, while those of imports by 7.1 pc. Compared to December 2013, exports in January 2014 went up 3.3 pc in RON-denominated values (3.8 pc in EUR), while imports diminished by 2.7 pc in RON (3.8 pc in EUR), according to INS figures. The trade balance deficit (FOB/CIF) in January 2014 amounted to RON 1.13 bln (EUR 249 M), RON 176.5 M (EUR 49.8 M) under that of January 2013, INS informs.
Intra-community exchanges of goods (Intra EU28) in January 2014 stood at RON 13.04 bln (EUR 22.88 bln) in terms of outflow and RON 14.22 bln (EUR 3.14 bln) for inflow, accounting for 73.3 pc of total exports and 75.1 pc of total imports.
Over the same interval, the value of extra-community exchanges of goods and services (Extra EU28) topped RON 4.7 bln (EUR 1.05 bln) for exports and RON 4.66 bln (EUR 1.04 bln) for imports, representing 26.7 pc of total exports and 24.9 pc of total imports. In January 2014, important shares in the structure of exports and imports were held by the product categories: transport machines and equipment (41.4 pc of exports and 34.8 pc of imports) and other manufactured goods (33.2 pc of exports and 29.9 pc of imports), according to preliminary data made public by INS.
Last year, trade deficit diminished by 41.3 pc, to RON 25.21 bln (EUR 5.7 bln), with exports reaching a historic peak at EUR 49.56 bln.
INS data also show that the turnover of the trade with motor vehicles and motorcycles dropped in January against the first month of last year, by 6.2 pc both in unadjusted series and in series adjusted with the number of working days and seasonal factors.
The evolution was determined by the lower figures registered by the trade of parts and accessories for motor vehicles (6.7 pc), the commerce of motor vehicles (6.3 pc) and the vehicle repair and maintenance activities (4.3 pc). The trading of motorcycles, parts and accessories, maintenance and repairs of motorcycles registered an increase of 13.3 pc
The volume of construction works declined in January by 4.3 pc compared to December, in series adjusted with the number of working days and seasonal factors, while compared to the first month of last year it diminished with 7.4 pc adjusted series and by 9.2 pc unadjusted series.
