First Armenology Institute in Romania comes into being in Cluj

The first institute of Armenian studies in Romania, at this moment the only one in Central Europe, was founded in Cluj by the Babes-Bolyai University. The initiator of the project, professor and historian Lucian Nastasa-Kovacs, explained for Agerpres that the institute’s mission is to study the documents of the Armenian community in the entire country, not only in Transylvania, but also to establish research relations regarding the Armenians’ history in Hungary, Ukraine or the space of former Yugoslavia.
Armenia’s Ambassador to Romania Hamlet Gasparian stated that the history of Armenians in Romania is a long one, spanning hundreds of years, during which time the Armenian community constantly made efforts to better integrate with the majority population, adopting the culture and habits of Romanians.
