A Roman limestone sarcophagus was recently discovered at the Porolissum archaeological site in Salaj County. According to the archaeologists, this is a special and unusual discovery especially since it was not found within the necropolis near the Roman castrum but within the sacred area instead.

The sarcophagus was discovered by chance, during a restoration project started by the Salaj County Council. The sarcophagus also has a limestone lid of considerable weight. The lid features no ornaments apart from the model carved on it, a model frequently seen during the Roman period, according to Agerpres.
