Ford announced on Monday that the number of employees working at the Craiova plant will increase by 1,700 this year, and the company intends to stop the production of the B-MAX model starting from the beginning of September.

The company announced that more than 500 new employees will be recruited to support the needs of the vehicle production area.

“They add to the 976 employees who were already announced in April and to the 200 additional operators necessary for the Engine Production. In these circumstances, the number of employees joining the Craiova plant in 2017 almost reaches 1,700” reads the press release.

Stopping the production of the B-MAX model comes in the context in which the mono-volumes are gradually replaced with SUVs and Crossovers.

“The successful EcoSport small class SUV is considered in this context, being built for the European customers at the Ford Plant in Craiova starting from this autumn. The investment for the production of the new EcoSport is of almost EUR 200 million” reads the press release.

The announcement on the 500 additional jobs comes in the context in which Ford has launched, in April, a recruiting campaign for 976 basic and skilled operators who will support the production of the new EcoSport. Besides, the company has started the recruiting process for hiring 200 operators for the engine production at the Craiova plant.

Since taking over the Craiova plant, in 2008, Ford has invested more than EUR 1 billion in the production facilities from Romania. In this moment, the number of employees at Craiova – both in the vehicle production area and in the engine production area – is of 2860 people.
