Former Romanian foreign minister dies


Stefan Andrei, a foreign minister under communism who decreased Romania’s dependency on the Soviet Union, has died. He was 83.

Andrei died Sunday at home, according to a foreign ministry official who declined to be named because she was not authorized to report the death.

The diplomat Stefan Andrei was born on March 29, 1931, at Livezeni village, Dolj County. He was married to Romanian actress Violeta Andrei together with whom he had a son, Calin.

The former diplomat was Romania’s Foreign Minister during the period of March 1978 – November 1985.
