State Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), Bogdan Aurescu, has visited, on Tuesday, at the invitation of the Canadian side, the 71st Airbase in Campia Turzii (western Romania), the military airmen and the CF-18 military aircraft stationed in Romania, the visit being attended also by Canada’s ambassador to Bucharest Joanne Lemay.
‘The visit takes place in the context of the anniversary, on August 16, 2014, of 95 years of Romanian-Canadian diplomatic relations. The visit of the MAE State Secretary at the 71st Airbase reconfirms the importance granted by Romanian authorities to the Canadian military mission in our country that is part of the Allied reassurance measures adopted in the context of worrying security developments in the near vicinity of the North Atlantic Alliance, on Romania’s eastern border’, said MAE in a release on Tuesday.
The Canadian side also made a presentation of the military mission underway in Romania over May – August, with six CF-18 fighter jets and approximately 200 airmen and support crew, appreciating the excellent collaboration with Romanian specialists and authorities.
‘The extension of bilateral military cooperation with Romania, as well as the development of joint instruction and training drills in our country have contributed significantly to increasing the experience of the air forces of the two countries, as well as the interoperability between the two air forces’, the release shows.
