Geoana: PNL to win 15-17 pc. Antonescu to resign, Johannis to lead PNL

Mircea Geoana stated for realitatea.net that PNL-Basescu-PDL are already on the same side of the barricade and will seal their alliance by joining the European People’s Party. In his opinion, the Liberals will obtain a score of 15-17 per cent in the European Parliament elections, their current president Crin Antonescu will resign and the party’s leadership will be taken over by Klaus Johannis. Geoana considers that it is not fully decided yet whether Victor Ponta will be PSD’s presidential candidate, this yet to be decided after May 25, depending on how the right wing regroups. “May 25 will have an effect. Within PSD we will take the final decision in what concerns the candidacies after elections. What is happening on the right wing is more interesting, there are quick sands there. It seems pretty clear to me that PNL will score 15-17 per cent, far below 20 per cent. From what I have heard Mr. Antonescu saying, it seems clear to me he will allow Mr. Johannis to take over PNL’s interim presidency and will remain PNL’s presidential candidate. This also has an interesting effect because Klaus Johannis is more credible alongside the EPP (European People’s Party, the group PDL is a member of – editor’s note),” Geoana stated.
In his turn, Klaus Iohannis said yesterday in Timisoara that “unification of Right-wing forces will be attempted after elections for European Parliament”, but pointed out it’s difficult for him to assess “the place and role of Traian Basescu in this equation after 2015”.
