Government will assume responsibility for one single draft law, the decentralisation law, and it will do so by November 20, at the latest, Prime Minister and Social Liberal Union (USL, alliance, at rule) Co-Chairman Victor Ponta announced on Monday. ‘We established very clearly – the Government will assume responsibility on the draft law on the decentralisation of those institutions which are currently subordinated to ministries and which will go to county councils or local councils. There is still time until the 15 or 19 – I have talked to Mr Zgonea, I shall also talk to Mr Antonescu about an appropriate day in Parliament’s schedule. As far as I know, we need a joint sitting. But it will certainly be by [November] 20, at the latest,’ the Prime Minister said at the end of the National Standing Bureau (BPN) meeting of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). According to him, it is a decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) that states very clearly that it concerns a law. ‘And it is a very important law, but it is a law that afterwards, for implementing, requires certain efforts, so let us make them a success. That is the transition period must be as short as possible and create as little confusion as possible,’ the PSD Chairman also said.
