Dan Voiculescu’s attorney, Gheorghe Mateut, has called on Monday for new people to be heard in the ICA file: the head of state Traian Basescu (as mayor general when the deeds took place) and former ministers of agriculture Dacian Ciolos and Ilie Sarbu.
Mateut says Traian Basescu should be heard as he was mayor general at the time of the privatization of the Institute for Agricultural Researches (ICA). As far as Ciolos is concerned, Mateut said he is involved in the procedure of setting up the ministry of agriculture as part in the legal suit.
Dan Voiculescu left the Bucharest Court of Appeal by 14.45 saying he has to be present at the Ilfov Police Inspectorate.
Dan Voiculescu and twelve other people are tried in the ICA file starting with December 2008. The National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) prosecutors say the ICA privatization was a fraudulent one by undervaluing the institute’s assets with over EUR 7.7 million. According to the prosecutors the damage registered amounts to over EUR 60 million.
