Ivan: The Presidet puts a spoke in the wheel of accession to Schengen
Social Democratic Party (PSD) spokesman Catalin Ivan on Thursday said that the head of state, Traian Basescu, a player-president until recently, is now content to stay on the sideline and to put a spoke in the wheel of Romania’s accession to Schengen, showing more concern for Elena Udrea’s political career instead. He also said that the EPP, which “frantically” supported Traian Basescu at the referendum last summer, stand aside. “It’s peculiar. When it comes to Traian Basescu’s interests, the EPP are on his side, when it’s about Romania’s interests, they are against it,” Ivan said, who added that Traian Basescu looks more concerned about Elena Udrea’s political career than the national interest. “Traian Basescu is much more concerned with the PDL infighting, with Udrea fighting Blaga and Macovei, than with Romania facing a major test this March,” said Ivan.
