On December 10, Romexpo Pavilion C3 will host the 27th edition of the traditional IWA Christmas Bazaar, an annual philanthropic event organised by the International Women’s Association of Romania (IWA). This year’s edition brings together over 50 participant countries, a record number for the IWA Charity Christmas Bazaar. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the proceeds will be channelled to a series of organisations that support disadvantaged persons.
Over 30 diplomatic missions, representatives of the international community in Romania, and an impressive number of more than 600 volunteers representing more than 60 nationalities, have contributed to the success of this anniversary edition. The proceeds collected from the sale of the traditional products of participating countries, as well as from direct sponsorships, will be donated through grants for the benefit of the foundations and associations that IWA supports through this edition of the Christmas Bazaar.
As happens every year, the representatives of the international community will bring traditional products and objects in a multicultural celebration of colours, sounds, aromas, and tastes, animated by songs and dances specific to each country, everything to come to the support of the most vulnerable members of society. The visitors will be able to buy unique gifts ranging from handmade objects to traditional delicacies from several countries and will, at the same time, be able to contribute to giving the needy a chance to a decent life. The event is presided by Mrs Gladys Abankwa-Meier-Klodt, the wife of the German ambassador to Bucharest, in her capacity as Honorary President of IWA Christmas Bazaar, by Marina Coanda Bundac, President of the Christmas Bazaar, and IWA President Ximena Reyes.
“I’m very honoured to be invited to preside this year’s edition of the IWA Charity Christmas Bazaar. Even though this is the first IWA Christmas Bazaar in which I’m taking part, I’m familiar with this type of fundraising events. During my childhood I often helped out my mother when she was cooking specialties from Ghana and I enjoyed the results of my work and creative energy which I put in the service of disadvantaged persons, in bazaars organised in Russia and India. IWA Charity Christmas Bazaar offers a unique opportunity to mobilise multicultural diplomacy and at the same time to bring together expats and Romanians alike, in an extravagant melange of traditional products, foods and beverages, of dance and music and of interaction between people. I believe there isn’t a more efficient way to combine business and pleasure to collect money for IWA’s charity actions,” IWA Christmas Bazaar Honorary President Gladys Abankwa-Meier-Klodt stated.
IWA – the International Women’s Association of Romania – is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation founded in 1978 and consisting of members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Romania, but also of the cultural and business community, representing more than 40 countries.
