Jan Akkerman, one of the world’s best rated guitarists, returns to Romania for the first time in 17 years for a live performance at the Hard Rock Café in Bucharest. The event, Friday, Nov 23, from 9.00 pm, is the first in the Guitar Masters series. Each evening, Guitar Maters will feature a reputed instrumentalist who, apart from being a great showman, will reveal his mastering of the guitar. From jazz la blues, and on to rock and fusion, each concert will offer a fresh perspective on the infinite versatility of this instrument,” according to the press release by Cavalleria Events, the organizer of the event.Akkerman will perform in Bucharest songs from his latest album “Minor Details”, launched last year, a release that won high accolades from critics. The genius guitarist of the 70s group Focus, who wrote the trademark instrumental « Hocus Pocus”, Jan Akkerman made himself noticed for being a talented musician always prone to experimentation, improvisation, testing new instruments and an amazing speed. Akkerman was the first artist to use a lute part of a rock instrumentation, which showed his inclination toward medieval and Renaissance music.A member of several groups, among whom Johnny and his Cellar Rockers, The Hunters, Brainbox and Focus, alongside whom he explored the progressive rock sounds (an amalgam of classical, jazz, and rock music), he is chosen ‘Best Guitarist in The World’ in 1973 by the readers of British music magazine ‘Melody Maker‘. He leaves Focus in 1976 to embark on a successful solo career, collaborating with Phil Collins, BB King, Charlie Bird, Cozy Powell, Claus Ogerman and Ice T. He released 12 solo albums and was awarded the Golden Harplife achievement award.
