Kovesi notifies CSM about Mazare’s statements about DNA

Chief of National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) Laura Codruta Kovesi notified the Supreme Magistracy Council yesterday about Radu Mazare’s statements regarding DNA, labeling them as “defamatory” and which “affect the magistrates’ right to image.” Mazare accused “the political pressure DNA made all over the country and especially in Constanta” which would allegedly be “following orders.”
Judge Rodica Cosma of High Court of Cassation and Justice rejected DNA proposal of preventive arrest of Radu Mazare on the grounds that the prosecutors failed to come up with evidence proving the mayor of Constanta had received bribe in exchange for an intervention meant to win a contract to build houses, reads the motivation of the rule by which the court ordered Mazare release on April 9. On the other hand, legal sources quoted by Mediafax say that the investigators’ papers reveal that the DNA prosecutors did not find the EUR 175,000 about which they claim to represent a bribe given to Radu Mazare but, in order to recover it, they seized almost EUR 19,000.
