LPF: League I to have 14 teams starting with 2015-2016 season

The members of the Professional Football League’s (LPF) General Assembly have unanimously voted on Tuesday in favor of the proposal to change League I’s competition system starting with the 2015-2016 season into a system consists of 14 teams and a play-off and play-out system. The proposal will be analyzed by the Romanian Football Federation’s (FRF) Executive Committee.
FC Dinamo President Constantin Anghelache believes that this system would represent a concentration of values. “I voted in favour of having a 14-team championship, a play-off and play-out system. It will be more interesting because there are still 36 games and the same proceeds and being fewer teams there will be extra financial resources from broadcasting rights. Fourteen teams mean a concentration of values and the repeat of attractive games such as Dinamo vs. Steaua or Astra vs. Petrolul. Everybody agreed with this proposal,” Anghelache stated.
Asked whether the Romanian Football Federation will approve the LPF proposal to change the competition system, Anghelache answered: “Yes, Mr. Burleanu said that he waits for the League’s proposal. This proposal of ours will be discussed within the Executive Committee. I cannot speculate what the FRF President will do.” At this moment League I consists of 18 teams.
