Millionaire arrested for contraband with alcohol
Liviu Jitea and seven other persons were placed under preventive arrest on Sunday by the Galati Court in a case involving contraband with alcohol and damages of EUR 8 M. Liviu Jitea, the leader of the organized crime group, and 17 persons were detained by prosecutors on Saturday. Prosecutors and policemen conducted 59 searches in Vrancea, Galati and Braila on Friday, targeting persons suspected of involvement in contraband with alcohol and of causing estimated damages of EUR 8 M. The searches took place at the companies and homes of the persons suspected of being part of an organized crime group formed in July 2011 and engaged in illegal activities concerning the production, transportation and selling of alcohol with concentrations of 95-96 degrees, the Police informs.
