Min. Teodorovici, Commissioner Ciolos discussed attracting European funds

Attracting the European funds earmarked Romania for 2014-2020 was one of the highlights of the talks held by Romanian Minister of European Funds Eugen Teodorovici and visiting European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos at a meeting, Agerpres reports. ‘It is important that Romania, for the next financial timeframe 2014-2020 creates a simple, transparent system that should be accessible to the beneficiaries. For such areas as the Danube Delta there is need of an integrated strategy, that should consider the complementariness of the European funds and the efficient use of the instruments made available by the European framework,’ Ciolos mentioned. ‘The key to the success of the absorption of the European funds is the implementation system, which must be efficient and high-performing. For this reason, 2014 is a key year in which we must complete the system reform in order to increase the absorption of the European funds to a maximum in both programming periods’, Teodorovici said at the end of the meeting. The EU funds assigned Romania for 2014-2020 amount to roughly EUR 43 bln, with EUR 21 bln of it being earmarked for the cohesion policy and more than EUR 18 bln for agriculture, fishery and direct payments in agriculture (amounts in current 2012 price terms). Also, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos had yesterday in Cotroceni Palace, at 3 p.m. a meeting with President Traian Basescu.
