Monica Macovei sues Catalin Ivan

PDL MEP Monica Macovei says she has taken legal action against PSD MEP Catalin Ivan ‘for his repeated deceitful, denigrative and defamatory allegations’ that she had been investigated by some ‘ethics committee’ of the European Parliament. ‘I have also sued Antena3 TV for quoting Catalin Ivan on his deceitful assertions without a minimum due diligence and adding defamatory comments regarding myself,’ Macovei notes on her blog. The statements Macovei’s complaint refers to were made by the PSD MEP in November 2012, during the election campaign in Romania. Ivan responds that ‘Monica Macovei is never going to lie to the European Parliament again as long as we both are its members, because I will sanction her and have a very tough reaction.’ According to Ivan, Macovei should answer questions regarding the 2 million of votes she said were defrauded in the referendum and about which she spoke in the European Parliament, as well as the ‘coup’ that had happened in Romania according to her and on which she had informed all European institutions.
