More than 300 Romanian and foreign writers and translators will participate between October 1 and 5 at the International Literature and Translation Festival in Iasi, as Herta Muller and David Lodge have already confirmed their participation, reports Mediafax.
The manager of the International Literature and Translation Festival in Iasi (FILIT) Dan Lungu told a press conference that this year’s edition will enjoy famous writers from all around the world. “I am happy to organize the second edition of the festival and I hope it will rise to the same level as last year. There are great names coming to FILIT. Along names such as Herta Muller and David Lodge, there will be more surprises because we are in talks with other writers whose names will be revealed gradually,” said Lungu. Herta Muller had confirmed her presence at last year’s FILIT but due to a surgical intervention, the Romanian-born German writer could not make it to Iasi. She said later that she would be present at this year’s edition of the literature festival.
Among the Romanian writers who will be present at the Iasi festival there are Mircea Cartarescu, Magda Carneci, Vasile Ernu, Norman Manea, Bogdan Suceava, Matei Visniec, Marta Petreu and Ion Vianu. Other writers who confirmed their participation to FILIT are Sahar Delijani (Iran), Romain Puertolas (France), Monika Peetz (Germany), Care Santos (Spain) and Eduard Hirsch (USA).
FILIT is organized by the Museum of Romanian Literature in Iasi as the festival budget which amounts to EUR 500,000 is provided by Iasi County Council. Mayor of Iasi Gheorghe Nichita announced during the same press conference that the municipality intends to contribute with the sum of RON 100,000 to organize this event. According to the organizers, more than 300 writers and translators from Romania and abroad will be present at this year’s edition in Iasi between October 1 and 5, a hundred more than last year’s edition. The deans of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iasi announced that British writer David Lodge will be awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Iasi University.
