MPs statute not promulgated by President Basescu
President Traian Basescu yesterday sent the Parliament a request to reconsider the Statute of the Members of Parliament invoking, among other arguments, the fact that it conflicted with the recommendations set forth in the latest CVM report and proposing a public debate in the matter. In his request, the president says the Law sent to him for promulgation was for the completion and amendment of the Statute of Deputies and Senators mainly in the area of incompatibilities, conflicts of interest and immunities concerning parliamentarians. Regarding the procedure for declaring incompatibilities, regulated by article I, point 11 of the new law, the president reminds that it introduces parallel checks with the ones done by the National Integrity Agency.
