National Heritage turns private at Artmark auction


The evening of March 6 gathered closeto 750 participants, both in the room andonline through Artmark Live, an online platform,in the ‘General Constantin DonceaCollection’ and ‘Golden Age’ auctions, apress release notes. According to the citedsource, thanks to an auction rate of 92.31percent and an overall auctioned amount ofEUR 263.670, the Doncea Collectionproved to be a pleasant surprise for art lovers.Two record sales were reported in the authorcollection category, namely the GeorgeEnescu sculpture by Gheorghe Anghel, soldat four times the starting price – EUR 6,500and Alegoria toamnei, a sculpture byRichard Hette, sold at EUR 2,500, almostdouble the starting price. As expected, all 18works included in the National Heritage categorywere sold to private collections, includingNicolae Darascu’s Vedere a satuluiGrimaud, purchased at three times the startingprice (EUR 30,000) and Stefan Luchian’sGradina casei din strada Povernei, purchasedat twice the starting price (EUR 35,000).This year’s edition of the ‘Golden Age’ auctiondrew collectors’ interest more so than in2012. With an 84.74 percent auction rateand an overall auctioned amount of EUR57,605, the auction was considered a successfor the Romanian collectors’ market. Thehigh points of the evening were the auctionof a protocol golden sword received as a giftby former Romanian President NicolaeCeausescu from the Romanian Army andsold at EUR 7,000 (seven times the startingprice) and a CiCo poster from the ‘70s, soldat twenty times the starting price.Diplomatic trophies were also sought for,including a dagger owned by George Macovescu(editor’s note – former Communistpolitician, Foreign Affairs Minister andRomanian writer) sold for EUR 1,400(seven times the starting price).
