Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu sent a congratulation message to AGERPRES National News Agency, on the occasion of its celebrating 128 years of existence.

“I want to congratulate the entire AGERPRES team, on the occasion of the special anniversary today! It is not a small thing, especially nowadays, when things aren’t easy at all for the press, for a media institution to get to celebrate 128 years of existence! You have been and continue to be a witness and a teller of an entire history, and the AGERPRES archive is an inexhaustible source of information, which helps us not to forget and to better understand the past. Your evolution – from Romania’s Telegraphic Agency of 1889, to today’s AGERPRES – is a proof that you have understood your role and you have known to move at the same pace with the world and the society. The professionalism of the AGERPRES team has been acknowledged, over the years, though the distinctions granted to the Agency and its journalists. I am certain that you will continue to know to inform the public of a correct, prompt and responsible manner. I wish you success further on! And… as many exclusive news items as possible! Many happy returns of the day, AGERPRES!,” the Prime Minister says in his message.

AGERPRES National News Agency is the first news agency of Romania, its history dating back to 27 March 1889, when then Foreign Minister Petru P. Carp signed the establishment document for the Telegraphic Agency of Romania.

The Telegraphic Agency of Romania began its activity a month later, on 11 April, when it sent its “first wire” to Vienna, basically the first news item.

From the first wire to multimedia news items, AGERPRES has broadcast the most important information in Romania and abroad.
