Nelu Iordache under house arrest after one year and five months in prison

Businessman Nelu Iordache, detained around one year and five months ago on suspicion of misdirecting European funds for the first section of the 22 kilometers long Nadlac-Arad highway, will be tried under house arrest, according to the Bucharest Court of Appeals’ final decision issued Wednesday, Mediafax reports. Iordache, administrator of the Romstrade company, was arrested December 2, 2012 for embezzlement, forging documents, money laundering, and fraud. Due to Romstrade’s misappropriation of funds cashed in as a down payment for the construction of Nadlac-Arad highway, the project could not be finalized and payments to the European Commission were suspended.
