Norica Nicolai will be the vice president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) group in the European Parliament. Liberals elected her on Tuesday in Strasbourg upon a proposal by ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt, a release informed Agerpres. Nicolai took the individual decision of staying with ALDE after her re-election in May on the ticket of the National Liberal Party of Romania, although her party decided to shift to the group of the European People’s Party. As a VP of ALDE, she will contribute to drafting the group’s European policies. Her colleagues also called her to preserve the integrity of Liberal values in Romania. Nicolai will also represent ALDE as an alternate member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, and will carry on her foreign affairs activity in the delegations for the relations with the Republic of Moldova and Russia.
