The Chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban held a speech on Sunday at the National Congress of the Liberal Women’s Organization which gathered more than 1000 Liberal women, encouraging women in the party to candidate for the high positions both at local and central level.

“There is still a sort of conservatism in the public perception. Unfortunately, there is still a reticence related to women’s ability to perform at the top. I tell you that inner reticence also exist among ladies, to really enter a competition on an equal footing with men to hold important positions inside the party, in the local administration and in the state. (…) In my opinion, you must support each other. (…) OFL (the Liberal Women’s Organization – e.n.) must be a support for those colleagues (…) who dare to fight for the leading positions inside the party and for the leading positions in the local and central administration, with no emotion, with no complex, with all the energy and strength they have” Ludovic Orban told to the participants in the congress.

The PNL leader also told to the present women that the submission of the candidacy is “a statement”.

“Unfortunately, today we have only one county branch that is led by a lady. (…) You don’t have to have any emotion. To candidate is a statement. When you candidate inside or outside the party, if you can obtain the trust of the people in the party and outside the party, it is a statement, an opportunity to be known, to express your ideas, to present yourself as you are” Ludovic Orban added.

“A Communist remains a Communist, a Bolshevik remains a Bolshevik, regardless of how much they are trying to walk among crowned heads”

The Liberal leader also stated at the Congress of the Liberal Women’s Organization (OFL) that he was outraged when he saw various commemorations at the King Mihai’s catafalque, but those who didn’t appreciated the King must know that people will not be deceived. Orban stated that “a Communist remains a Communist, a Bolshevik remains a Bolshevik, regardless of how much they are trying to walk among crowned heads”.

“I will start by saying that I refrained to say a word, although I was outraged when I saw various commemorations at His Majesty’s catafalque, people who not only that they didn’t love him as I did, not only that they didn’t respect him, but they denigrated him, they didn’t even let him come in the country, not to mention the support to return to the throne. Unfortunately, I will say this to them: they must know that they cannot deceive people, that their crocodile tears can fool any people who cared about His Majesty. A Communist remains a Communist, a Bolshevik remains a Bolshevik, regardless of how much they are trying to walk among crowned heads or shed crocodile tears at various events” Ludovic Orban stated.

He pointed out that “PNL was, is and will be the partner of the Royal House of Romania”.

“The first step made by His majesty Carol I, the first king of Romania, the first step on Romanian ground was made with I.C. Bratianu, and since then, there was a history in which the partnership between PNL and the Romanian monarchy led Romania to Europe, to modernization” Orban stated in his speech held at OFL.

“We’ll attack judicial laws at CCR if they pass Parliament. UDMR is a member of EPP, it has the obligation to vote against PSD’s proposals”

PNL Chairman Ludovic Orban told journalists on Sunday that the Liberals will challenge the judicial laws at the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) if they pass Parliament, and claimed that the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), which is member of the European People’s Party (EPP), has the obligation to vote against PSD’s proposals.

“PNL opposes; we’ll vote against any PSD-ALDE amendment that might affect the independence of the judicial branch and the magistrate’s autonomy in their activity. Obviously, at this moment we are preparing the grounds for challenge at the CCR, in case the laws pass,” Orban said.

The PNL leader criticised UDMR’s vote on these laws and said the Union has the obligation to vote against the proposals tabled by the PSD, because UDMR is a member of the European People’s Party.

“I can’t help but remind you that without UDMR these laws wouldn’t have been adopted, and I once again ask UDMR to get out of the ruling party’s snare. They are members of the European People’s Party and have the obligation to vote against the proposals tabled by PSD, which are not endorsed at the level of the European People’s Party, nor at the level of the European Union,” according to Orban.
