The tourist overnight stays in tourist accommodation units amounted to 21479.3 thousand, 6.1% more compared to the same period last year, while arrivals amounted to 9483.9 thousand, 10.8% more compared to the same period of 2016, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In September 2017, the average duration of stay was 2.4 days for the Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for the foreign tourists.

In the period 1.01?-30.09.2017, the net use index of accommodation places was 32.2% on total tourists accommodation units, 0.3 pct more compared to the period 1.01?-30.09.2016. In the period 1.01. 2017-30.09.2017, hotels (40.5%), tourist villas (27.5%), ship accommodation units (25.8%), bungalows (24.9%) and tourist halts (24.5%) registered higher use indices of accommodation places.

In the period 1.01?-30.09.2017, the arrivals of the Romanian tourists in the accommodation units were 77.2% of the total arrivals, while the foreign tourists were 22.8%, weights similar to those of the period 1.01-30.09.2016. As to the arrivals of the foreign tourists in the establishments of tourist reception, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (74.7% of the total of foreign tourists) and 86.2% of them came from European Union Member States.

Most of the foreign visitors accommodated in the establishments of tourist reception with functions of tourist accommodation came from Germany (261.7 thousand), Israel (220.4 thousand), Italy (184.2 thousand), France (132.6 thousand) and Hungary (125.1 thousand).

In the period 1.01?-30.09.2017, the Romanian tourist overnight stays in the tourist accommodation units were 80.7% of the total overnight stays, while the foreign tourists’ overnight stays were 19.3%. As to the overnight stays of foreign visitors in the accommodation units, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (73.2% of the total of foreign tourists) and 85.1% of them came from European Union.

In September 2017, the arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, according to customs, amounted to 1181.7 thousand, 25.9% more compared to September 2016. Most of the foreign visitors came from European countries (88.4%). 58.6% of the total arrivals of the foreign visitors to Romania were from European Union Member States, out of which the most arrivals were from Bulgaria (23.2%), Hungary (20.3%), Germany (10.3%), Italy (9.7%), Poland (5.7%) and France (5.5 %).

In September 2017, the departures of Romanian visitors abroad, according to customs, amounted 1934.0 thousand, 21.5% more compared to September 2016. The Romanian visitors abroad mostly used the means of road transport, 67.1 % of the total departures.

In September 2017, the arrivals in the establishments of tourists’ reception amounted to 1182.0 thousand, 8.3% more compared to September 2016. In September 2017, the arrivals of the Romanian tourists in the establishments of tourist reception with functions of tourist accommodation were 74.5% of the total arrivals, while the foreign tourists were 25.5%, weights similar to those of September 2016. As to the arrivals of the foreign tourists in the establishments of tourist reception, the highest weight had those coming from Europe (74.6% of the total of foreign tourists) and 88.0% of them came from European Union Member States.

In September 2017, the overnight stays in the establishments of tourist reception amounted to 2691.2 thousand, 4.3% more compared to September 2016.

In September 2017, the average duration of stay was 2.4 days for the Romanian tourists and 1.9 days for the foreign tourists.

In September 2017, the net use index of accommodation units was 34.4% on total tourist accommodation units, the same with the one of September 2016. In September 2017, ship accommodation units (44.0%), hotels (43.4%), tourist villas (29.8%), hostels (22.9%), tourist boarding houses (22.1%) and agro-tourism boarding houses (18.2%) registered higher use indices of accommodation places.
